5 Ways Even the Busiest Entrepreneurs Can Stay Fit
Balancing life, fitness and work can be done with a little willpower on your end.
Life as an entrepreneur is hectic. Sometimes, it may seem like you don't even have time to enjoy a meal or take a breath. It is important to keep yourself healthy and fit while maintaining your dream. Balancing life, fitness and work can be done with a little willpower on your end.
Create a Reasonable Schedule
Keeping a dedicated schedule that fits your business and personal needs is ideal. This means that you should keep specific business hours and stick to to them. Schedule yourself breaks for your own sanity. Breaking your schedule should only happen if it is absolutely necessary.
In your schedule make time for:
- A morning break
- A 1-hour lunch break
- 15-minute afternoon break
- 10 minutes to meditate
All of these elements are important to include in your schedule as it will help keep you balanced. You can maintain a healthier lifestyle and stay fit when you have some regularity in your life. At some point in your day, even if it is after work, make time to just disconnect from technology and have some downtime to relax. After adopting these new habits, you will notice feelings of confusion or you may feel uneasy when you break your schedule.
Schedule Time to Workout
Staying fit helps improve your overall health, including your mental health. Schedule time each day to workout either before or after work. Vary your workouts to work different parts of the body each day. This helps tone your entire body and ensures that you are working each muscle group evenly.
Consider hiring a personal trainer to design a weekly workout regimen just for you and your personal goals. Setting goals helps you develop a stronger workout ethic and keeps you motivated to do your workouts every day. Ask your personal trainer about exercises you can do in a hotel room if you are traveling for business and the accommodations booked do not offer a gym.
Maintain your workout schedule on weekends and holidays. Breaking this routine will be noticed by your body. Working out does provide an energy boost from adrenaline to jumpstart your morning or kick stress to the curb after work.
Eat a Balanced Diet
Eating right is a key element to staying fit. The day starts with having a smart breakfast that includes protein. Protein helps give your body energy and helps you stay focused. Make your own lunch or visit only restaurants that have healthy options.
To help you stay on-track with eating healthy, consider working with a dietician or nutritionist to develop a custom meal plan for your body's needs that takes your likes and dislikes into consideration. The meal plan should serve as a guide to help you shop and prepare your meals. At least 2/3 of your diet needs to be fresh meat, fruit and vegetables. Refrain from processed, fried and fatty foods as much as possible.
Part of the meal plan is likely going to include cutting down on cocktails. Alcohol slows the body's metabolism and often leads to feeling lazy the next morning. It is also one of the biggest causes of missed morning workouts.
Keep your Schedule while Traveling
Although jetlag can make it difficult to keep up with your normal daily routine, you still have to do it. Keep the schedule you have at home when traveling for business. Use hotel room workout options so that you are at least getting some kind of exercise if your daily exercise plan cannot be kept.
Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is something that you should think more about. First and foremost, give yourself a bedtime during the week. Set your alarm every night and get up at the same time every morning. Your body needs some kind of regularity to help get your internal clock on-board with resting.
A fresh, well-rested brain makes better decisions. If you have difficulties relaxing before falling asleep, try some sleep medication or going for a walk. It helps to relax your mind and body so that you can get the right amount of sleep to perform your professional duties to the best of your ability. If you have to, put sleep on your schedule and cross it off as you wake up the next morning.
You do not have to complete intense workouts on a daily basis. Intervals of 1-4 minutes of exercise several times a day has proven to be successful. Short intervals of exercises can be completed at home during commercial breaks while watching television. When you feel good about your health, have balance in your life, and keep a schedule life will seem less hectic.
