It's no secret that social media is the place to be for all things marketing and branding. If you want your ads to be seen, they need to live on at least one social network. This both democratizes and marginalizes the ad space. Which is why it's important to know the correct way to apply social media to your marketing methods.
If you don't address your social media presence with the appropriate amount of gusto, you'll be wasting money, manpower, and an entire marketing strategy. Your startups brand shouldn't go unnoticed, and neither should your branding efforts. If you want to build a brand that your company deserves implement these three tips into your startup's social media marketing strategy.
1. Build an audience through your established network, and by utilizing influencers.
The first thing you should focus on when it comes to establishing your brand is building an audience. Growing and organic audience on social media can be extremely difficult. To stand out you will need to be doing two major things.
One is that you will need to create content that drives people to your site. This means it has to be share-worthy. Your content needs to be thought out, with your audience in mind. Think about the kind of demographics that your product or service is made for, and then post aesthetics that will resonate with them. You also need to be sharing valuable content regularly, this means at least once a day.
Your aim should be to build a brand that forms relationships with your audience via social media.
The second thing you need to do is build relationships with influencers. They are a powerful tool that can help drive traffic to your page. Jonathan Foley, founder of @Positivity and @Societyfeelings says that "Influencer marking works so well because when done right it's mutually beneficial. Our pages have been generating around 5,000 to 10,000 new followers per day through influencer marketing alone".
This should be a major pillar of your branding strategy, which means it needs to have the same voice as your brand message. Work with influencers who's audience will be interested in your product or service. This will keep you on the right track to building a loyal audience.
2. You're more likely to get seen if you know where your audience is scrolling.
Social media is a powerful opportunity for startups with low marketing budgets. Since building a page on major platforms are free, no matter how big or small your company is you are eligible to have a social media presence.
Still, I see too many startups or small business get lost in the social media sauce. It's easy to want to be on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn etc. but it's imperative that you find out what platform your dominant audience lives on.
For example, if they are on LinkedIn it's not worth putting all your efforts into an Instagram page. More importantly, not all content translates to different platforms. What you post on Twitter should be different than what you post on Facebook, and so on. Unless you have a big team--and budget--it can be impossible to create engaging and unique content for every social media site. Instead, you should choose one or two and nourish those pages.
Spreading yourself too thin won't get you anywhere. Instead, find out where your audience is and take the time to create a page that they will want to loyally engage with.
3. If you want to build a brand that resonates with your audience, you need to engage with your audience.
Breed engagement on your pages by being engaging. When your audience comments on a post you should like it or comment back. This is especially true if someone is asking a question about your company and it's products or services.
Social media is a great way to connect with your users. Make them feel heard. You can't build a loyal following if they feel neglected by your brand.
You should always be trying to include your audience. A great way to do this is by running campaigns and promotions that involve them. Whether it's a selfie challenge, or an opportunity to win a free shirt if they tag three friends in a post, it includes them in your process. This incentivizes them to purchase your products and to be a part of your brand.
If you want your audience to engage with you, make it easy for them too. If you post about a sale you are having or a new product you want them to check out, make sure to include a link to your website.
